My Happy Village Cambodia

Bringing education, health and hope to the people in the Prey Chrouk Commune of Cambodia

MHVc has now been teaching for 9 months. In fact when taking into account our setup time, regstration etc we have been active for 1 year. It has been a year of success. Our initial hopes have been fulfilled and more. In total we have 220 students split between the 6 day classes and our 2 evening classes.

To enable us to teach for longer during the evening we have installed solar panels which gives us lighting in all three classrooms and a power socket in Classroom A.

We have formed an association with the International NGO “Room to Read” who operate in 11 countries providing libraries and reading materials on a bilingual basis. MHVc has received a large quantity of Khmire/English reading books in each classroom. “Room to Read”, in 2007, built a library in Brasat Primary School with a 3 year back up of supplying english bilingual books. When the 3 year period came to an end the contract was suspended as there was no English input at the school. I am now pleased to say that owing to our presence and teaching “Room to Read” have reinstated their contract with Brasat School. A win – win situation!!

We have now formally linked with The Lady Elizabeth International Junior School in Javea, Spain. 16 students have pen friends and we are hoping to start a “Lifestyle” project between Grade 5 LES and our students.

In November we received a Certificate of Recognition and Apreciation for out teaching work and commitment within Brasat School from Siem Reap Provincial Education Authority.

Sophach and the teachers work hard with the children and our test results continue to show improvement.

We are beginning to see more interest from prospective Volunteers and invite all age groups to experience the “Real” Cambodia. We have a associate membership with ConCert Cambodia.org in Siem Reap to attract new volunteers to our project. The Linratanak Hotel Angkor has donated spare towels to our villagers and will provide any of our visitors or volunteers with competative rates re accommodation ( mention Mr Robert, My Happy Village Cambodia when enquiring).

In November a sponsored “Spinathon” was held at Centro de Fitness, Denia and raised 190 Euros. A “Gig” held in Manchester, UK raised money for several charities and MHVc received £200. Thank you all very much.

We are very aware that it is important that our donors have confidence in how we allocate their donation monies. I stress again that MHVc is fully transparent with our financial dealings and if any donor/sponsor wishes to inspect our records they are free to do so. With the exception of bank charges all our donated monies go the school and community project. There are no administration charges applied within the organisation.

Thank you for your continued support and a Happy and safe 2013.
