My Happy Village Cambodia

Bringing education, health and hope to the people in the Prey Chrouk Commune of Cambodia

1. I am pleased to report that with the help of villagers in the Commune the school was painted inside and out including the exterior woodwork. This was in the true community spirit. We say a big Thank You to our workers. 2/3rds of the cost was covered by support from Mr Jeffere as reported last month and the other monies came from our Capital Account.

2. To finalise our Volunteer House arrangements; with the new bathroom completed and painted, again a group of villagers assisted in the construction of a bamboo and timber framed outside kitchen (with a metal roof). This now completes the facilities for our teachers and volunteers staying with us. The cost came from the Capital Account and the labour was given free by the villagers. Again we have to extend our thanks for their continuing support.

3. Director of Education, Mr Sophach and teachers Lin and Von have set and conducted a mid term test for the day students. This took place on 28th June. The results are awaited. The Director of Prasat Primary School has welcomed these tests and it is his intention to have the results included into the school students annual report. This is a very important step forward for our teaching staff and shows the depth of recognition that our “Free school” has achieved in a short time within the government education system.

4.We maintain our efforts in inviting visitors to our project and have recieved some additional donations to our cause. At this stage I wish to bring to notice that our Bank Account details in Spain have been changed as a result of the ongoing financial crisis in the Euro zone. I know believe we have insulated ourselves against further financial problems and at the same time reduced our account charges. (see the Donation page for new details.)

5. A Fundraising walk and BBQ was held in Pedreguer, Spain on 14th June in aid of the project. 33 adults and 3 children took part. Amanda and I did the supervised walk in the Pedreguer orange groves and we presented the BBQ at our house. After all costs were covered we were able to add 310 euro to the MHVCambodia account. A good result and an enjoyable evening was had by all.
